“The Town of Georgina recognizes and acknowledges that we are on lands originally used and occupied by the First Peoples of the Williams Treaties First Nations and other Indigenous Peoples, and on behalf of Mayor and Council, we would like to thank them for sharing this land.  We would also like to acknowledge the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation as our close neighbour and friend, one with which we strive to build a cooperative and respectful relationship.


We also recognize the unique relationship the Chippewas have with the lands and waters of this territory.  They are the water protectors and environmental stewards of these lands and we join them in these responsibilities.”

  • Saturday, April 27th, Run For Southlake fundraising event in Newmarket
  • Saturday, April 20th, Town staff gave out 2,000 trees; staff thanked for coordination and assistance; over $62,000 worth of trees provided to residents at no cost
  • The MURC has been open for seven weeks; the public are requested to be patient while staff coordinate program scheduling
  • Announcement; Town of Georgina presented with the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2024 Budget, the award is granted to municipalities that demonstrate exceptional proficiency in several key areas
  • Mayor Quirk and Alex Demoe, Council Executive Administrator, were recognized for Autism proclamation
  • April 20 and 21, Discover Georgina Show held at the Ice Palace, congratulations to Georgina Chamber of Commerce
  • Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture's first Live and Silent Fundraising Auction was well attended and raised several thousand dollars for the Centre
  • Item No. 17.1.c, Closed Session, Section 239(2)(f) of the Municipal Act regarding possible revisions to Site Alteration Bylaw

Darren Gahan addressed Council with his concerns regarding the placement of traffic-calming bollards on Town roads as he believes they can create the opposite effect through fear and intimidation, and offered to work with Town staff in a respectful manner to calm traffic in other ways.

That Council receive the delegation provided by Darren Gahan regarding his concerns with the Town's practice of placing traffic bollards on roadways within Georgina and that his concerns be referred to the appropriate staff for any action they deem appropriate.

Kim Empringham on behalf of the York Region Federation of Agriculture, a non-profit farm organization ensuring the agricultural sector and rural communities are considered in any new or changing legislation impacting sustainability, provided comments on the stormwater rate study report.  Ms. Empringham requested further investigation of the farmhouse tax code rate calculated for the stormwater fee to ensure an appropriate fee for that tax group, and that agricultural land be exempt from this fee structure.

  • RESOLUTION NO. C-2024-0132

    1.    That Council receive Report No. DS-2024-0017, prepared by the Development Engineering Division, Development Services Department dated April 24, 2024, respecting the execution of a proposed Earthworks Agreement for the Greystone/Middleburg Subdivision;

    2.    That Council authorize the Mayor and Clerk to execute an Earthworks Agreement between Greystone (Homestead) Limited and Middleburg Developments Inc., as Owners, and the Corporation of the Town of Georgina, 
    relating to Draft Plan of Subdivision 19T-14G01 referred to as the Greystone/ Middleburg Subdivision; and,

    3.    That Council authorize staff to make minor revisions to the draft Earthworks Agreement, included as Attachment 3 to Report No. DS-2024-0017.

Report No. DCAO-2024-0005

Ilmar Simanovskis of Civica, Consultant, provided a presentation concerning the Stormwater Rate Study.  Staff members provided further clarification and information, noting that a fee is recommended as opposed to a general tax levy due to the fact that fees increase transparency and have more flexibility.

Ryan Cronsberry advised that incentives can be investigated through the action plan.

It was requested that each of the report recommendations be voted on separately.
