CALL TO ORDER

“The Town of Georgina recognizes and acknowledges that we are on lands originally used and occupied by the First Peoples of the Williams Treaties First Nations and other Indigenous Peoples, and on behalf of the Mayor and Council, we would like to thank them for sharing this land.  We would also like to acknowledge the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation as our close neighbour and friend, one with which we strive to build a cooperative and respectful relationship.

We also recognize the unique relationship the Chippewas have with the lands and waters of this territory.  They are the water protectors and environmental stewards of these lands and we join them in these responsibilities.”

Pan-African Flag Raising Event

Committee discussion to begin planning event.

  That the Committee motioned for Patti White to connect with Kendra Shae-Marie Mullings, Founder of the Black Excellence Society, to begin dialogue towards planning event on August 1st, 2024 and return at the next meeting with an update.

Pride Month Events

Patti White to provide update surrounding planned Town events.

The Town will raise the Pride Flag in June. 

York Region Pride Parade is scheduled for June 15, 2024 in Newmarket. 

The Town will support and participate in Georgina Pride events which will be advertised on the Town Events page. 

The Committee will look into how to become more involved with Pride events directly.

The Committee is interested in scheduling a guest speaker for Pride. 

YRP Member Alicia Lauzon to provide an update on details surrounding the, "To Belong Breakfast". The Committee will look into purchasing tickets to attend as a group and celebrate Pride together.
